Searching for a coach/willing to coach lower rated
Had posted this in the other forum dedicated to this, but not sure if that was being scrapped and a new thread was being started here, so here it is again!   Also, I'll send attendolo a message and see if they would like to work with me.

To Coaches:
Looking for a coach to help me with my game. I usually hold well through the opening if I'm at least slightly familiar with it. My middle game is weaker and I can falter easily if a ready-made plan is not available. My endgame is the worst part of my game and can (and has) led to loss in drawn positions, draws in wins, and (sadly) losses in wins. I have a very flexible learning style (meaning I don't know what my best chess learning style is and am willing to try whatever you want), time wise I work forty+ hours a week so after work and weekends are best, I'm in the New York Time Zone, US East Coast, GM-5 I think. My stats are below. Ideally I want my USCF to catch up to my performance level, then make a push for 2000+. Idealistically I'd also like to push for a NM or IM someday but that may be a pipe dream.

Highest GK: 1864
Average GK: 1720
Lowest GK: 1628
Current GK: 1628
Current USCF: 1455 based on 20-odd games, performances at 1800.

To Students:
Hi! I am willing to serve as a chess coach for those interested. I typically play a more tactical game than positional and thus am better suited for those with that leaning or those who want to sharpen up their tactical play. I typically play 1. e4 aiming at a Ruy Lopez and 1... c5 aiming at a Sheshnikov Sicilian. I am pretty well versed in the Sheshnikov, having played and studied it consistently for about a year now both correspondence and OTB. We can play games, solve puzzles, review/annotate your past games, observe GM play, or anything else you have in mind. I'm open to allowing the student as much say in the process as they want. If you want a give and take where we both decide what to pursue next that's great. If you need a more organized approach from me then I can provide that as well. I have an ICC account if you're in a near time-zone to me we can meet there as well.

Hi!
I would also like a "personal-coach" to progress
I think I have potential (like everyone else does) and I need to exploit it. I never discussed
really about my playing style and I can't evaluate myself very clearly. It would be nice to play
games, analyse games, etc.
I will talk (by private messaging) with Concordborn about the coaching
See you!

My apology
However, my records indicate that schual and jbravo58d have already coached you in addition to easy19 mentoring you in a learning mini tournament. Please correct me if I am wrong. I wish all of the club's members desiring a coach to have positive experiences. If this was not the case, I will try to find you another coach and/or mentor.

Searching for a coach
Hello I am an effectively new chess player (returning after leaving the under-14s at age 11
ranked 24th in Canada 8 years ago) and am going into my second month of playing here on
GK. Looking for a coach to help with opening preparation, tactical development and end game
positions. (So pretty much everything  ) Am currently playing Scotch Game and Center Game
as white and the Caro-Kann Defence as black. (Have not worked on a suitable response to
1.d4 when playing black yet)
Thanks in advance for any help.

Looking to up my game
Hi there.
I am looking to improve my gane. I have generally only played very socially, but would like to play a lot more and would like to be able to compete at a higher level. I think I have a pretty clean slate for a prospective mentor to work with.
I receive criticism well and won't throw tantrums if I dont become rated 2000+ in the first month. Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Reference "REAL GOOD COACHES"
IMHO: I think GoodBishop's 12Jan10 comment is very interesting.

If one is looking for a "good coach," and not willing to pay for the coach's time investment, one is lazy and greedy.

Now that I have insulted EVERYBODY in the house, please permit me to explain. if you are willing to pay for the time that a "REAL Good Coach" will invest in you, you WILL develop your talent and skills and you will definitely improve. THAT is why NMs, IMs and GMs are supporting their families by coaching. That is why professional people who are rated between 1600 to 2000 OTB work with various clubs around the country coaching in person as volunteers or being paid a pittance by the club. PLEASE NOTE: good coaches are hard to find. and easy to offend. some of the best coaches are not rated above 1800 OTB.

if one has no $$, one must use his/her own skull sweat to improve.
Guess what the paid coaches make YOU do? Use YOUR own skull sweat to improve. AFTER ALL YOU ARE THE ONE PLAYING THE GAME....

In this forum, if one wants to improve, one must work on his craftsmanship at chess. I look at chess as a craft or a skill that can be improved by practice, study and research.

I am will willing to provides some direction, some advice and some comments on your games. I am willing to make you examine your games by asking you questions about what you saw and what you found in your books. BUT, make no mistake, I will make you work. I will recommend a few books to purchase (your choice to buy or not). AND I will expect YOU to work on your "craft" as chess practitioner. If YOU work, you will improve. if you do not work at the craft, you will not improve.

re: Reference
I believe john has spoken for all of us. Well, John: i had no better words than yours.
Of course, sometimes life makes it harder to pay attention being both coach or pupil... But if one's approach is the right one, that is in our case be modest, listen to hints, work to improve then you'll get good results. Otherwise it's just time (and patience)-wasting.

Openings and Middle game
Hello,
Their is no hurry but if someone could help me with my openings I would really appreciate it. I'm pretty good with the king pawn opening, but I have trouble with other openings like the Ruey Lopez. Also I could use some advice on the transitioning from the opening to the middle game. I'd be thankful for any advice you guys might have.

Update on Members Desiring a Coach and/or Mentor
I wholeheartedly agree with the notion that training success is contingent upon the work and time invested by the student being coached / mentored. And yes, the club has been blessed with many good coaches of varying ratings.

New player looking for a mentor/coach
I'm new to chess, but can't get enough. Im looking for someone to help me with openings and defenses etc. but also someone who loves to talk about the game and has a true passion for it and can help me understand the game on a fundamental, philosophical level. I want to understand the ART of the game. I'm not necessarily looking to become a ''champion'' or anything, I just want to play good chess and push myself as hard as I can. In doing so, I think I will become an excellent player
