My family is my #1 hobbie
I've been ice fishing some this winter.

I use to snowboard 30-50 days a year but with the $$$ of passes anymore I only get up a few times a year now.

I read alot, just finished James Clavells 'SHOGUN', great book!!!!

I'm learning piano this winter

I play basketball 1-2 times a week

We grow as much produce as we can, so right now I am planning the garden for next summer, getting seeds ordered and the green house ready to start the seedlings

In the summer we stay busy with the gardens, picking berries, hiking, fishing, camping, getting firewood

We don't have a TV so I don't follow any sports

Things beside Chess
I don't count family, church, friends as hobbies so I would say baseball, football (American) tactical shooting. I uses to play lots of golf but I am unable to anymore.

I also listen to a lot of music, especially Doo Wop and Rock n Roll. Only about 5% of the 1300 songs on my I-Pod are after 1990. You won't find any Rap, Hip-Hop, or Disco on my play lists. Dylan, Melloncamp, Springsteen, Seger, and Pink Floyd are my favorites-----------

... and the whole of 'Dark Side of the Moon' is listenable as well.

Here is a very small selection of the kinda stuff I like to listen to. The first two are best with the volume somewhat... elevated...

I hope the Hurricane Katrina footage is not out of place, but it does reflect my interest in keeping abreast of world events.

But my main interest, as has been expressed elsewhere, is ***War Gaming*** - with model soldiers, of course: the emphasis is more on the 'spiel' than the 'krieg'. I guess it comes from an interest in history that began in my childhood, and a fascination with creating imaginary worlds.

I have to admit, though, that the real thing I find appalling - especially as practised these days I speak as a very distant observer, not being involved in any way. Yet it seems to me that as an instrument of foreign policy, warfare long ago outlived its usefulness. Somewhere between 1805 and 1815 - roughly 2 centuries ago - is my estimate...

Doesn't stop me fighting American Civil War or World War 2 actions, though...

Ion

In case this doesn't work, it is Led Zep's 'When the Levee Breaks'. Amazing number.

I think...
... I'm being dragged off by the better half to Tai Chi on Saturdays, starting this coming weekend. I hope the old frame is up to it...
