the Double Knight Opening
My new favorite opening is the Double Knight opening. With this opening the first move is Nc3. The second move is normally e4 or d4 but could be Nc4, and the third opening is almost always Nc4. I like this opening because it involves immediate development of minor pieces.

1.Nc3
This is called the Queen's Knight Attack, it has been called the Dunst Opening, Heinrichsen Opening, Baltic Opening, van Geet's Opening, Sleipnir Opening, Kotrč's Opening, Meštrović Opening, Romanian Opening, & Millard's Opening.

I see 2.e4 or d4 but how do you get Nc4?

If you like the flexibility of this opening take a look at The King's Indian Attack, 1.Nf3, g3, Bg2, d3, e4, Nbd2.

deployment of the force of a piece so as to aggrandize control
regarding the posting

<<"I like this opening because it involves immediate development of minor pieces.">>

You may find it illuminating to consider this point of view:

1) It is not development of a piece that counts, but deployment of the force of a piece.

2) The move order of deployment may best be guided by the layering of control,
especially control of the center (from which power emanates):
so during development, choose the candidate move that yields for you the greatest control of the center.

emanate
Originate from; be produced by as from a source. I.E. light that emanated from a lamp.

This is one of the Master Mater's fav openings!
Hi everyone!

Just to let you know that Master Freddy just lurves playing that opening against me. I did in fact try it on him and it turned out to be one of my better losses against him.

Maybe Easy19 could, at some time arrange a thematic tournament based on that opening.

Cheers

Joanne

Even though I do care about how I open, I don't want to overemphasize the openings as white, unless Jack Stockel wants me to do so because I am still a beginner. Instead, I would rather combine two openings in one game by trial and error through a series of transpositions, as mentioned earlier. I am still not ready to look at opening theory because I am not used to the algebra associated with it.

It is a different story for black, however. Unless I misunderstood, Jack Stockel said that I had to learn some of the defenses like the Sicilian in order to play well.

Yes, that is definitely the same Jack Stockel that I was referring to.

I recently learned that 1.e4,e5 2.Nf3,Nf6 3.Nc3 is either the Double Knights Opening or Two Knights Opening.

Two Knights Defense
Edit: It is not called the Two Knights or Double Knights Opening. I am thinking of the Two Knights Defense. 1...e5 2.Nf3, Nf6 3.Nc3, Nc6 must be played.

The two knights defence
The two knights defence is 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6.

The Two Knight Defenve
This opening was first studied by Giulio Cesare Polerio in 1580.
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 White has tried 4.Ng5 and Tarrasch called it a beginner's move.
Black plays 4...d5 5.exd5 Na5 6.Bb5+ c6 7.dxc6 bxc6 8.Be2 h6 is the main line.
5...Nd4 is The Fried Liver Attack.
4.d4 5.0-0 Bc5 is The Max Lange which leads to more complicated play.
