Is it me?
I'll tell you about an incident I just had here in Gameknot. Nothing really serious, just one that left me scratching my head.
It was late at knight and I had no new moves to make in any league or team games. I noticed there was an open game in the "Join Game" forum. The player who is also a team captain was rated at 1001, my rating is a paltry 905, but admittedly has been higher and of course lower.....I don't care who I play, just as long as I play. Anyway I digress.
This fellow cancels the game saying that I should play somebody more seasoned...implying of course that I was "hand-picking" my opponents which I don't feel was the case. In the years that I've been here on Gameknot, I've never ever run into a situation like that before, and I normally get along with everybody. Did I do something out of line here?

Thanks,

Billy

Hello Billy
No, I don't think you did something wrong.
And what is more: if you start a game, you can choose the ratings of you opponents (between 900 and 1100 for example). He could have done that.
If GK says you can join a game, that means the one that started it, has made his preferences that way.

Cheers,

Jo

my 2 cents...
No you didnt do anything out of line - sounds like it was probably better you didnt play this person in the long run -

Try not to read between the lines.. that's one thing I know for sure. Appears that the player probably just passed the buck instead of being honest about why they didnt stay with the game - put it on you instead of speaking for themselves...

Hope that helps..

I think your right
I just went back to the open games and this guy has established playing people under 950 even though he is 1040 himself.......maybe he was a frustrated high school bully? Oh I didn't really say that.
I guess the point is, if you don't play higher rated players and yes get walked on from time to time, how does one really improve one's game? I guess the fact that I was rated lower to him and he still was offended caught me off guard. I'm past that now, just have to make sure I don't accidentally splash him in the "kiddie pool"

It isn't worth...
... to keep on busy with it, there are 30.000 other players, focus on the game, because that's what we are here on this site for, is it not? I had some bad experiences myself, but leaving it behind me after a while really helps. But I do understand your anger, I was angry myself back then, but there is no point in searching why someone did this or that, it gets your mind off the games and that is not good.... for you, he doesn't mind. So, don't give him that "pleasure". This is just an advice.

Cheers,
Jo
