If anyone else would like to submit a game, you have till the end of the day to do so. But the game must have been finished in July.

So far we have 6 entrants.

I have been very busy with work, I should have my decision tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

July Game of the Month Winner
Once again there were some excellent games entered into the competition, and it was a very tough decision. The games entered were:

Tennesseehiker game
Kendo-ka game
Blackbart11 game
Untateve game
doji game
jbravo58d game

Like I said it was a close decision because just like last months there were elements in all the games that were worthy of winning the competition, so the winner is:

Jbravo58d
He had a very well played game overall. What clinched it for him was the bishop sacrifice. Though a little unsound, it created a hole in his opponents defense and he then properly exploited the weakness with a strong attacking combination.

Other notable elements from the other games(games are in no particular order):

Tennesseehiker
Properly capitalised on both of his opponents blunders and held onto the advantage well to get the win.

Untateve
Untateve came in a close second with a nice little combination to win the game in the end.

Doji
A very well played game as well, very sound moves with few mistakes. Ended up with a large material advantage at which point his opponent resigned, though the game was far from over it was shaping up to be a very good game.

Thank you again to all those that entered, and good luck to all of you in your future games.

Game of the Month
I'm the Judge for August. I'm looking forward to seeing the games everyone enters. I Don't mind if you submit them here before the end of the month. But if no one has a game to offer yet don't worry. You still have till August 31st to submit one.

Game of the month
I'm still new to the game and working on my endgame rather than my openings so don't look for any early game magic, I did enjoy the games though, so that must be worth something.

I'm always open to pointers, let me know what you see, would have played, or cringed about.

4 days to go :)
I hope there are quite a few of you out there preparing to send in a last minute game. So far I only have one game posted, jbravo58d seems to have deleted his entry. The only player so far who has submitted a game is thegoodbishop. So please notify me if you have a game that your going to enter even if its still in progress.

Yes...
I have the same game I was about to submit on july... not finished yet. I'll submit one of two, depending if it finishes or not by this week.

I always submit a game. I have one that I may wish to submit if it finishes in time. If not, I'll the best one I have and submit it.

I doubt I will finish any other games that are good enough for the competition by the end of the month, so I will submit this one. I used Bird's Opening, as usual, but my opponent chose to go with an Indian opening and this was the first time I had played the Bird against an Indian style opening. Play starts slow as both of us maneuver our pieces into attacking position, but then I make a quick thrust towards the enemy king with a nicely coordinated attack and my opponent subsequently resigns.

untateve's game of the month - Aug 2009
Similar to hbird, I don't believe I'll finish any other games this month as interesting as this one.

I'm playing black and open with Modern Defense. Lots of good tactical play in my opinion--something I'm trying to work on.

Entry for game of the month
This isn't exactly an exciting game, but I am satisfied with the attack on the opponents king

fatcat2's Game of the Month
Here is my entry. An excellent example of what to do if your opponent plays a weak opening. The judge may like to know that this was a Thematic Mini-Tournament!

Can I take part ?
As a very new member, I'm not sure that I qualify for being able to submit a game, but I'll give it a try anyway game August wasn't a great month for me chesswise, so I'm a bit limited in choices and I have therefore decided to submit my most recent completed game.I lost my mojo somewhat during the month, so I have now opted to cut down on my active games and spend some time going back over a few of my games to work out what went wrong. The game I have chosen, was certainly a game of two halves. I was fairly happy with the first part of the game but the latter stages are littered with mistakes, mostly mine.

Game of the month August
Anyone can enter a game it doesn't matter how long you've been in the club. The only criteria is that the game finishes before the end of the month. So any game that finishes in August will be accepted.

If any more players enter this may turn out to be the month with the largest number of entry's. Which I hope will mean more participation in the clubs activities. I especially encourage anyone who isn't already involved in voting for moves in the games posted on the forum to do so.

Even if your move doesn't win the vote you will certainly learn a lot from the discussions surrounding those games. Currently the most important game on the forum is our match against Club Morphy I hope those who aren't already involved will come and join in.

August's game by Damalfi
This is not the best game ever, but I am very proud of it. I am aware that it's "originality" what matters, but I think I could keep the attack high and had my reward...

August Game of the Month
A lot of fine entry's this month. It was not an easy choice to make. I hope you'll all join me in congratulating hbird1830 for winning this month.

Game of the Month August
hbird1830 game
An excellent game with a consistent plan and interesting tactics that dominated his opponent.

Runner Up
damalfi game
Another fine game. Taking his opponents kingside to pieces and finally checkmate on the queenside.

My comments on the other games.
untateve and jurgemaister did a fine job creating a winning end game.

fatcat2 showed his opponent why its a bad idea to sacrifice the right to castle so early.

aanderson dominated the centre in her game. Putting so much pressure on her opponent that they cracked and hung a rook ending the game.

jbravo58d quickly beat his opponent with a nice example of a double check ending in checkmate.

thegoodbishop caught his opponent out with a back rank checkmate.

I encourage everyone to have a look through the games.

My Favourite
I enjoyed all the games but i liked the originality of some of the moves in thegoodbishop game. There were a number of mistakes on both sides and the checkmate could have been achieved 3 or 4 moves earlier, but i found it very interesting to watch. Well done.
