Please let New Zealanders reinstate timed out games!gameknot.com At the time of writing, he was last online 2 days 23 hours ago, i.e about 10pm, UK time, on Monday. Of course an earthquake his Christchurch on Tuesday afternoon. Also at the time of writing he has timed out only one game - that game was against me, which he defaulted this afternoon, having failed to move within the three days allowed. I am of course extremely concerned he may have been caught up in the earthquake. Of course I do not want to win games like this, and if he wants to re-instate this game I will let him. Please pray that he is alright, or whatever you think is appropriate, and let him re-instate any time-out loss he may suffer against you. Many thanks, Charles |

I thinkI once somewhere read on the site that, in case of a natural disaster, games could, for the people living there, be re-instated without effecting ratings, tournaments and so on, but I am not able to find it anymore.... |

I'm with you, CharlesReinstatement would be ideal, but I question if it is practical. Reinstatement would of course mean not only games being reinstated, but possibly some matches! I had a similar problem a week or so ago when the Egyptian government closed down the internet. I wrote to Gameknot support asking that my two Egypt-based players' games be postponed. I was informed this was not possible unless there was a "majority" (?) of players affected. Frankly I cannot see why a fairly sophisticated site like Gameknot cannot on occasions like this take the decision to postpone the games of ALL players based in affected countries until such time as they make a move. I'd like to hear the views of other captains. Mervyn |

Gameknot postponed gamesIt may be late in the day for anyone else to ask for games to be postponed but it is a precedent and useful for future reference. Gameknot are prepared to postpone for individuals. Mervyn |
