"Message to team captains"
Why are we Captains so slow to update our team page with the new Gameknot feature "Message to team captains"?

When you make a challenge don't you search the opponent's team page for availability/time control, etc.?
Well, this new feature stops the looking ... and it takes no space on your team page - important to large teams
with many "words/characters" on the page.

I updated our team page yesterday and have not received the constant annoying ridiculously unfair challenges,
which we have had constantly for three months, lol.

If you have information directed to challenging Captains/co-Captains on your team page, simply cut and paste
this info to the "Message to team captains". Great asset to all of us!!!

Mike
I like the new feature!!!

It does, however, take space on the team profile, but teams that already post information regarding challenges don't lose any space, it would be easy that they place it with the "message to team captains", so that it will be easy to find.

Seems like an useful update...
I will also fill in the message right now; I haven't had time to look into it earlier. I just hope that the Captains will only put information actually relevant for the pairings there, and won't cram the space with useless data.

updated message
agree that this is a useful feature

in case i used too many words, i changed the message. new and old messages below in case
anyone is interested.

New message

In general:
2 players per match for quick pairing
3,5, or 7 days per move depending on players preferences
Match within 50 of 90 day high rating

Old message

Goal: Remove green dots ASAP.
Generally:
1. When green dots appear for TWO players with compatible preferences for days per move, I
will look for a match usually within 50 points of their 90 day high rating and usually starting
with team captains online and going down the table.
2. In considering pairings I will check to ensure the players are not currently playing or have
not recently played each other.
3. I will make a challenge and wait an hour or so.
4. If no response and especially if challenged team captain is no longer online,
I will sometimes look at and accept open challenges. Otherwise, I will either post an open
challenge and/or make an additional challenge with another team captain online and take the
first offer and withdraw the other challenges. I apologize in advance if some find this
annoying. Ray

Found this message to team Captains quite funny:
"I'm hammered....probably a good time to try and pull one over on me"- Team "Southern Chess™ ()"

I also...
...like this feature. I haven't as yet posted to it as I haven't decided what message I should scribe. I'm not particularly fond of the the idea of stating the obvious, such as; "Keep pairings fair" etc.

I've discovered that some captains don't follow what they've posted in their "Message to captains" section anyway. No matter, that's why we have the "decline" option.

Mayhap I'll try something along the lines of the above from "Southern Chess". Best one I've seen!

From a challenging stand point, if there are like 30 names in there, it becomes so confusing that I simply move on. Might it be better to say "All games are five days per move except ..."? We don't have that many players on our team right now, and even in our team message I've noticed our players unavailable for games don't have any games going. Usually, I try to avoid sending a challenge in a rating area where the only available player has 0 active games.

However, it has been helpful for the most part. And sometimes I find myself challenging these teams with comments first. It may be some sort of mind control haha.

In a related subject
Most of the time when I am seeking matches, I tend to skip over those teams with lists of players who are currently unavailable for whatever reason other than not having a green dot. Sometimes I don't even notice them when mixed in with a lengthy team profile. Although they are now easier to spot in the message to team captains section, I still tend to skip over them if they contain more than two or three names (sometimes even then).
One of the newer GK improvements is that now, players can set their amount of team games they would like to play to zero. Of course I realize that for say, timeout players it may be difficult to get them to change there preferences. Fortunately, those players will only have a green light for two days.

I dislike typing the word "unavailable" when declining challenges. This is where and why we list players
not available - when the green dot is off they are removed from that list. Changes are made to this list every
time there is a change in availability. I list them alphabetically but some teams list them by rating which
may be better for the opposing Captains.

As of this very moment we have 4 players listed and all have their green light on. One has not responded
to my last two messages and may be off the team soon. One had 6 timeouts (his first ever) but is "unavailable"
until his rating recovers - not fair to pair him because of the timeouts. The other two are in a serious bad
streak and teams were sending ridiculous challenges aimed at them. I have found that some team mates
will not follow directions when they are clearly told how to turn that green light off, it just amazes me.

Although difficult and a bit time consuming, especially since many teams still do not use this feature,
I always look for the unavailable player list. It reduces the number of declined challenges and with a large
team we cannot have a challenge lay around for a long period of time. The 5 maximum team challenges
should be increased for larger teams, IMHO.

Jo doji it took my awhile but finally this was tested on my team page.

This message to team captains feature does NOT take space from the team page!
However, I did not test the character limit of this new section --- but will test soon,
when our team page is completely redesigned.

This could all be avoided if GK would let us captains turn off the green light   Just give us a list of all players in the manage team members tab with checkable boxes that would make them unavailable for matches on our team. If those players don't like it, they can go to another team.

character limit of this new section
Hey Mike, I had assumed that there would be a character limit to the message to captains feature so, we did test. Couldn't find a limit.

Thank you for that information, Clinton qwkslvr.
It does surprise me that there is no limit and allows many possibilities.

JJ, as always you have a direct approach that brings a smile to my face.

Go Buckeyes!!

Please don't make that section overly long, guys...

The team pages of some teams are so long they're very difficult to read, even without that new section. Just list all the relevant challenge conditions and unavailable players in a concise manner.

MaCa.
