Team Tournamentsladder to individual play, why not add tournaments to team play? Perhaps the winning team could have a trophy on their profile or something else that marks the achievement. Maybe if GK isn't interested in the idea, we captains could form our own tournament... |

put up a Beginner, Casual, Intermediate and Expert player. If a team doesn't have a player in the rating group, they could always substitute a lower rated player but not the other way around of course. They would be completely blind pairings, and the teams interested would play in 4 team brackets, so each player would have a total of 6 games, 2 games against each opposing teams comparable players. If we were to start a mini-tournament, we could have three teams with 3 players each playing in a 9 member mini. The captain starting the mini would need to participate, and the results could be determined by adding up the three player's totals associated with each team. Personally, I'd rather see a GK sanctioned tournament though, because otherwise it would be a lot of work to put together. Although I've managed before and will be willing if we can get enough members to back this, however all the participating players would need to be rated fairly similar... |

Captains/Co-Captains Mini tourneyA Captains or Captains/Co-Captains-only mini tourney would still suffer from the same fallacy, again each team has a captain so you're looking at least 300 players....until we bring in the GK idea of signing up to a tournament. For a captain/co-captains-only series of mini tourneys it would be most simple to use a thread in this club forum to sign up participants. The list of available players then becomes much reduced! JJ, I appreciate this is not what you envisioned, you want the GK tournament system brought to team play, but well, it's a start. Perhaps you could consider a capt/co-capts-only series of mini tourneys resulting in one winner as a pilot study? TJ |

members of the team, 3 would probably be ideal. A captain entering the tourny would need to make sure those 3 players are available for the tournament. Then each tournament would have to divide the ratings up accordingly. For instance; one version could be all 3 players in the 1300-1500 range, like the current single tournament format. With this idea, the captain would need to find where his greatest player rating grouping falls and join the corresponding tournament. Then that tournament would be broken up to look something like this: Intermediate Team Tournament (Players Rated 1300-1500 Past 90 Days) Team A Team B Team C Team D When you would click on a match - Team A vs. Team B for instance, it would give you the breakdown of the player's matches, just like a regular team match does now. The winning team would be scored 1 point for a win, 0 for a loss and 1/2 for a draw. Each player would only play 1 player from the opposing team in the tournament. Another version could include a representative from each rating range in GK's current tournament structure. Then a team could send a player for each match as the captain sees fit. The only downfall is that my team, Le Regiment, doesn't have anyone in the master range. So to enter, I would have to have one player willing to play at that level (and most likely lose all his or her games). I'm sure there will be other teams with similar dilemmas for this format. I wouldn't mind taking this idea to GK, but I would like to smooth it out a bit first, so if anyone has any ideas, this is a good place to put them out there and maybe if we can come up with something workable we might see this come to pass in the near future. |
