this club is for captains to discuss captain/team related topics. it is unfair to deliberately sabotage a topic by posting something that is completely off topic because you think that it is something extremely clever in the monty python style. that is what a troll does - adds nothing to the discussion and posts in an effort to create trouble. I have no problem with tipsy making posts he finds funny but he can do them in a topic of his own creation and not be disrespectful to others who might find this discussion helpful to them. sorry if you think I'm being harsh but I have been nothing but helpful to tipsy on these boards and for him to troll like that is not appropriate. |

and now the punchline....GETTING back on track, I just recently removed the "this team is not currently accepting new members" from my team's description as the one detriment to a small team is when some phoenix churns through his games at a rapid rate of knots. Given I am bound by my decree to allocate no more than 4 team games (ie, two matches) to any player, this leaves the aforementioned phoenix with nada in their active team games column. Until one of us lesser lights catches up. ON the other hand, I don't really wish to actively seek players either, because I like my few, my happy few, my band of brothers. (And one sister.) So, I'm leaving new team additions up to the old gods, and the new. What am I going to do when someone applies to join my team? Quick check to make sure they're not one of those dunces you always seem to meet in GK tourneys, even Intermediate level, that has played 1000+ games and has a ranking of <1100. I mean wtf? Go play bingo dang nabbit. (I stopped playing tourneys as I tired of this) After that, pv they're a gold pawner, ADD them. (My team desc explicitly states gold pawners only.) For you Cap'ns that are time out obsessed I suppose a check of that might be in order. Checking how many games they want to play; well, that I would suggest AFTER you've added them. Each to their own though. In the end, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, you don't know what kind of member they're going to be until they've been one of your team members! There's no salary cap and list restriction here on GK so, what do you have to lose by giving a punter a go? EotD, unless your team happens to be amongst the first men and so dwells at the top of the All Teams Page, or you have an invitation current, the fact is this team member has trawled through all the teams and found YOURS to be the most appealing. That's gotta be worth something! At least that's my two cents. Cheers, TipsyJ |

Joining Monkey Wrench1. A player might be recommended by a current team member----That's usually enough to get a spot on our roster. 2. The player may have played with Wrench before. That's a plus in most cases. 3. A player maybe a former team member who was discovered to have been playing under multiple screen names and upon discovery dismissed....and then attempts to rejoin the team under yet another name. This happens maybe once a year, but we eventually find them out. Players applying with multi users on the same pc with very similar ratings and nearly identical log on log off times are not accepted. 4. A fresh face will have to endur a message or two from me...sometimes. Sometimes have to play a "test" game with a current team member. It's really a formality. 5. A player who has a proven wins a few more than he/she loses is almost always accepted and given a match or two as soon as possible. 6. We don't discriminate between free Game Knot players and " Golden Pawns." A good player is a good player. 7. A player maybe arriving from another team. I'll research that players team game history, etc. and ask why he/she is leaving the other team. If that player has team games in progress, I'll suggest that those games are finished before accepting membership. 8. I'll just say no because we have enough players currently. That's how we do it at Monkey Wrench. |
