CAPTAINS: DID GAMEKNOT FORCE YOU TO UPGRADE?
DID YOU KNOW I was once cut off from my team because I didn't upgrade from GOLD to a premium level. I couldn't make challenges and I was told captains had to upgrade or else. After one of my teammates paid the ransom, I got my team back. But one thing still nags me. They forced me, and other ESTABLISHED CAPTAINS to upgrade and didn't refund the lost time we paid for as gold members. I was due about 102 days, way more than 1/4 of the year. Gameknot wouldn't reply to my inquiries, and they just think it will go away. My question is this: How many of you captains had to upgrade with time still left on your subscriptions? A few captains refused to upgrade and lost their team, I considered it. When you pay for an agreement with stipulated rules, you expect those rules to last the entire length of time you paid for. That's why they call it an annual subscription. My best to all team captains, Wildemouse

I was forced to take a premium membership
Because my account got restricted (somehow, if you search for GameKnot on Google, many former members are complaining their account got restricted for dubious reasons). I didn't feel like doing it, but slavia was having a generous mood

I was not
I had a gold membership and GK sent a message for life time membership. I have always wanted my own team so I upgraded to Platinum Lifetime because you can have a team. It only cost me 160+ to get this so I thought 3 years at the gold price and was worth it and I have been happy since. Sadly I have heard that GK was not going to offer this any more bummer. I would love to see more in this.

I was forced...
In 2003 when I became captain the paid membership wasn`t mandatory.I think about one year later came this rule, I couldn`t afford it, i was in college and my team became inactive. But another captain, payed for my first gold membership! Someone I din`t know too well till that moment, but who enjoyed to play with us. I will always be thankful for that. Than, I started to work and I extended for one more year the Gold. and before my membership to expire, noticed that a "new rule " came out. Platinum or Titanium membership for captain! I asked Mike, the owner of GameKnot, if I will extend my membership (Gold) am I gonna be able to be captain ? I still have his email saved. On 07/20/2005 he said: "Yes, as long as your premium membership is renewed each year before it expires, you can remain the captain of your team. Sorry, unfortunately the Lifetime Membership option is no longer available." But guess what, I was forced to upgrade in order to keep my team active and give games to my players! I also lost many great players due to GK`s actions to force people to buy membership. Some players are "playing from the same computer" for many years without problems but recently, because one of my players made the "mistake" to help another one( a 10 yrs old kid, 1800 rated but he doesn`t know english to well) to set up a vacation, in a few min. or hours they both got blocked, i can`t send them any messages, and they got REMOVED from my team!!!! The first player has an avg time/move of 30 min. but after this he didn`t came online anymore (more than 2 days!). I am afraid he might be blocked and he will lose all the games by timeout so I payed today a "silver" for him.... I`m very upset about all this happening and I`m sure GK could make more money if they would not act like this.

You have thirty non-paying members in your team (the maximum).

I'm one of those lucky ones
That bought the lifetime membership early on, so i don't have that problem myself. But it is the way i became the captain of my team. Our former captain was told to take a membership or to make someone else captain. And yes, 30 is the maximum of non-paying member for a team. Greetings, Paul
