A New Thematic Game
Now that all the Thematic games have been completed why don't we start another one.
It would be great to play cadavre again or someone like easy19.
Why not list the player you would like to play against & the thematic opening.

A new Thematic Game
My vote for thematic opening is the Veresov 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.Bg5

I wouldn't mind being the "player" (I would actually prefer it) in the player vs club game and I would prefer to use the Black pieces. If you would like to play the Veresov that would be fine, my other choice would be the 2. ... Nf6 Scandinavian 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6.

Also no problem for me ( already playing a few of those games )

But the versov i do not like.

I like to play games like this
Traxler Variation - 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Bc5
Delayed Blackmar Diemer Gambit - 1. d4 d5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. e4
Alekhine Defence 4 pawns - 1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 Nd5 3. d4 d6 4. c4 Nb6 5. f4
Blackburne Gambit - 1. e4 e5; 2. Nf3 Nc6; 3. Bc4 Nd4
Hippopotamus Defence - 1. e4 Nh6; 2. d4 g6; 3. c4 f6
Demolition Derby (Nuke the sicilian ) - 1. e4 c5 2. f4 d5 3. Nf3 dxe4 4. Ng5 Nf6 5. Bc4 Bg4 6. Qxg4 Nxg4

Or perhaps the Anti-Veresov Opening - 1. d4 d5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. Bg5

But even better would be asking tactical_abyss if he is up for game using the Trompowsky Attack - 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bg5 i think he would like.

I'd be happy to play again as well, but will sit and wait my turn behind Freddy and antagonistknight.

I really enjoyed my match against the club, much more difficult than I had anticipated. After having played in a mini-tournament on the same opening moves, I discussed the opening with a player called Krill. We both agree that if Black and White are equally prepared, the best White can hope for is a draw, but really and truely Black should win.

If anyone is interested, the tournament is at the closing stages now and can be viewed here -> gameknot.com
Most important are Krill's games, he's a great player that annoys the crap out of me. . . in a good way

Well said cadavre: "he's a great player that annoys the crap out of me. . . in a good way   " those words are very descriptive of freddy as well.

My vote is to beat antagonistknight's Scandinavian
It would be nice to beat antagonistknight's Scandinavian.

My votes
Since AK is willing to play a Veresov, that's my vote.

And if we can handle two games, I'd love to take easy's suggestion and
play tactical_abyss in a Tromp if he's willing!

Thanks, perhaps in the future but not right now.I'm minimizing all my games right now and preparing for the National Open coming up soon in Las Vegas, Nevada.

So we keep Joe in mind for any future events..

And a note from myself.. I accept any thematic challenge you can come up whit so you do not have to stick to my little list..

Whatever
The hippopotamus defense? Where do you Guys come up with this stuff? Who comes up with these names? Jesus, I feel like a Greenhorn going to war with a sling-shot but I'll follow along---maybe I'll learn something---lol
paolo2504

ok for the hippopotamus !
anycase it's just a honour play with higher players like those so any opening is good for learning anyway.

The hippopotamus defense is fun. . . try using it against a computer on short timings

I like a challenge also..

my suggestion me vs club playing the Traxler Variation - 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Bc5 and the club may decide the color...

It'd be a good experience to play against Freddy, he is a bit of a pain! When I play him I always get bogged down with trying to work out all the possible combinations, because often his tactical awareness far exceeds mine.

If you count our last 4 matches, which is from where we've been of a similar rating, I have an even record against him of - 1 win, 1 loss and 2 draws. If you take it back to november 2007, then it's - 1 win, 5 losses and 3 draws.

I will say we haven't played in 2009 or 2010 so far, so I am basing what I say on rememberance of games played rather than anything current.

Wen we play again Craig it will be fun and exiting. i invented a new strategy specially for wen we play again... i guess i have to call it The Cadaver's Dissection

Thematic vs easy19
easy19 has offered to play the Two Knight's Traxler Variation with either color & since we have white in the other 2 thematic games I vote we play white in this one as well.

I always look forward to playing you Freddy! Shame both of us having a busy schedule over the last 12 months has meant our semi-regular games stopped. I'll be ready for the dissection whenever you are

Possible challenge?
My team may be interested in competing against an outside team (or group) using a similar format to your "thematic" group participation game. We would maintain a thread at our team site for our communication and you, of course would have a thread where neither party views the other.

My purpose is mostly coaching some members in general play. We benefit by communicating to each other candidate moves while learning how to best analyze a board. My rating is probably the highest on the team. So far, an 1100+ player and 1400+ are interested. We are far from some of your skill levels but would enjoy the learning opportunity.

I look forward to your response, ideas, suggestions, potential themes, recommendations, etc.

chess4him- Possible challenge
I'll play.

I think this is a great format for learning and strengthening relationships and I'm sure your team will enjoy it.
