cadavre-opa- 09-Sep-10, 13:23	Chess Tactics Anyone being playing the chess tactics? I spotted it awhile ago, had 5 attempts then left it alone. Then this evening found myself with some spare time so I've been playing through a few of them. All I've discovered so far is that I'm weird   I have 100% so far, having completed 17 puzzles. What makes me weird is looking at the average time to complete each puzzle and comparing them to mine. For the most part, I take about 40-70 seconds to complete any puzzle, regardless of how easy or difficult it is. The one anomaly is the first puzzle I did, which took 120 seconds mainly because I was still reading the instructions. Just wondering if anyone else has similar stats. Or if anyone started off like that and found that as the puzzles got more difficult they started to conform to the "norm".
cadavre-opa- 09-Sep-10, 13:25	Just to emphasis my point, the last three puzzles I completed were all finished in 58seconds. The average time for them was 2min36, 1min11 and 32seconds.
pennsylvaniadan 09-Sep-10, 16:44	Total attempts: 483 Solved problems: 332 (68%) Total training time: 4:27:47----Ha, I don't take much time but as your rating goes up, the puzzles get harder---also unless you do it their exact way---you fail----For players that think outside the box; like me, it can be a little frustrating----I did suggest that my team members use tactics as a warm-up before making team match moves especially if they haven't been on line for a while----it does get you in a "Chess state of mind" especially for us club players---lol
cadavre-opa- 10-Sep-10, 12:45	Total attempts: 36 Solved problems: 35 (97%) Total training time: 0:34:59 Literally just got one wrong, bit annoyed with myself to be honest since it wasn't complicated. I was just more interested in material gain than checkmate. But, as you can see, my time is averaging at 58 seconds per puzzle and I am almost inside the top 100 now. If anything, I've been getting slightly faster!
easy19 10-Sep-10, 13:49	I was at 2 and 3th place for some time but now i just dropped to the 11th place   My rating: 1972 Total attempts: 185 Solved problems: 175 (94%) Total training time: 11:46:59 and i take a lot longer for those puzzles. wen i see/found the solution i first investigate if it really is the solution.. the big catch is that i select only puzzles that -50 to +500 points difference with my rating and the puzzles you get then are very tricky. example you get 2 extremely good moves that both lead to a mate in 4 and you have to pick the best one and i find that some gamble.. i even took for some of those about 2 hours to think it true and then pick the wrong move.. ( i think most of those are now removed from the database so everyone is sprinting up the rankings..)

caknight 10-Sep-10, 21:52	I just started My rating: 1454 Total attempts: 25 Solved problems: 25 (100%) Total training time: 0:28:38 Mine is set at 400 points above & 400 points below my rating. You can also select limit to classic problems only.
ubermensch43 08-Jun-11, 06:21	Chess Tactics I am definitely addicted to Chess Tactics. I practice there almost on a daily basis. A bit frustrating sometimes as they absolutely want you to solve the puzzles their way and also sometimes you reach the same results in the same number of moves and yet you fail just because you had one move before the other or vice-versa. This should not be as you reached the same results under the same number of moves. I think Pendan mentioned this problem above. But all in all, it is an excellent training tool and I am happy that my rating finally reached the 1700's recently and I am going to try to at least keep it there or even go higher. I noticed easy19 mentioned he was 2nd and 3rd place and dropped to 11th. How do you check this? In other words, where and how do you find your place in the hierarchy of achievers there? I see the percentages, total attempts, and success rates and ratings (I am at 80% or so and in the 1700's), the number of attempts in the last 24 hours and so forth... but I do not see anything or anyway to find your place there. I would like to find out. Any suggestions?

cadavre-opa- 08-Jun-11, 12:37	I actually stopped not long after these posts were originally made. Found myself with no time for it for awhile and never really got back into the swing of it. Ranked: 386 My rating: 1866 Total attempts: 53 Solved problems: 52 (98%) Total training time: 0:56:12 So average was about 64 seconds per puzzle. Might have to have another look when I have more time, it was fun. I guess the biggest problem is that I generally solve chess puzzles in my break at work, and my current job doesn't allow websites like gameknot so I'm stuck doing them from books and newspapers instead.
easy19 10-Jun-11, 12:12	I have lost interest short after my last post.. My curent stats.. My rating: 2206 Total attempts: 191 Solved problems: 182 (95%) Total training time: 13:34:00 so about 2 more hours..
pawnstar2010 13-Jun-11, 01:53	I use this trainer a lot I find it to be a very useful tool. Sometimes I finish making my moves and I still want to play chess. So I invest some time in tactics. I think I am up around the 3000 puzzles attempted mark now. Often I find I fail a puzzle because I find a forced mate, and don't look for a faster one. My regular GK rating has improved at about the same rate as my tactical rating, but my tactical rating seems to be on average 100 - 150 points higher. Would my GK rating have improved at the same rate without the tactical trainer? Who knows? I probably should split my "study" time better with books videos and tactics trainer...
ubermensch43 13-Jun-11, 04:08	So do I pawnstar2010. My GK rating has also improved at the same time. So there must be something to Chess Tactics. About books, videos, and Chess Tactics it should be an "and, and...", not an "or, or..." without forgetting to analyze your lost games particularly and also the analysis button before you submit...
