CLUB MORPHY'S ANNUAL INVITATIONAL HOILIDAY CHARITY TOURNAMENT
I am now taking sign ups for a Holiday Charity Chess Mini Tournament sponsored by Club Morphy. The official rules are posted below, but in a nutshell, participants play for their favorite charity and at the completion of the mini tournament all participants send their donations to the charity selected by the tournament’s winner.

The suggested entry commitment is $20, but actually, whatever you can comfortably afford ($2, $5, $10, $20) is fine. Because the format for this year is an invitational mini tournament, it is open only to premium subscribers, per the site’s policy.

Since it is an invitational tournament, I need to know whom I should send the invitations to. Thus the sign up process: Those who are interested in participating need to send me, their team captain or their club’s founder/moderator a message that they would like to participate in the Holiday Charity Mini Tournament and indicate the charity that they will be championing for (e.g. “Sign me up: johnclark pledging $20 and playing for The Los Angeles Mission”). I will then send out an invitation to join the mini tournament and post the participants and charities on the Club Morphy Forum along with a personal message to the participants. Because of time constrainsts, participants are requested to make multiple moves per day in order to complete the tourney somewhere around January 1st.

Please sign up by Saturday, November 20th. I’ve found it to be a good contribution to the Holiday Spirit.

OFFICIAL RULES
FEES
-The suggested entry commitment is $20 per principal, but whatever is comfortably affordable ($2, $5, $10, $20) will do.
-Participants will play for a charity organization of their choice. The charity organizations must be legitimate and have a posted web page.

-participants may sign up for the individual tournament by sending me, their team captain or club founder/moderator a message that they wish to participate along with the charity that they will be championing.

WINNER:
-determined by the GameKnot site's mini-tournament rules: 2pts per win, 1 pt per draw, 0 pts per loss.
-losing participants, along with the winner, will send their pledged donations directly to the charity organization designated by the mini tournament's winner. No money is to be exchanged between participants.

Donations
For the right donation I'm sure I could have a brain fart at a critical point in the games.

charity tourney
I'll fight on for USC football. No, just kidding. For the San Bernardino City Mission, and like penndan, expect to donate to Paralyzed Veterans of America, certainly a worthy cause.

What a great idea!

Sign me up, assuming those of us without a team can compete?

I'll be playing for Everyman - everyman-campaign.org

My pledge will be £15 or $20, whichever is higher at the end of the tournament.

Congratulations brigadecommander!
I am pleased to announce that brigadecommander is the winner of MORPHY'S Holiday Charity Mini Tournament with 16.0 points. It was a close fight with cadaver-opa finishing with 15.5 pts and caknight with 14 pts.

As stipulated, participants are on their honor to direct their pledges to the tourney winner’s designated charity. Brigadecommander designated “Green Mountain Audubon Society” at www.audubon.org

I was unable to fill the 11th slot in the mini-tournament. Without filling that slot, the tournament will not close and may affect the participants’ eligibility for future games and/or mini tournament games. Happymisanthrop has agreed to fill the 11th slot. His play does not factor into the outcome of the tournament. It is only to “technically” complete the mini-tournament. Happymisanthrop moves quickly and I hope this necessity will not be too much of an inconvenience. And he’s a fun guy.

For me, it has been a lot fun and I thank all of you for participating. I hope you will all join next year’s Holiday Mini Tournament.
