What about me? will occupy some of the centre with his knight instead, and prevents both d4 and e5 - at least for now - with a rather natural knight development. Is that okay? |

3...e6 4. cxd5 Nxd5 5. e4 and is at least as good in the center as Black after the black knight retreats. 3...dxc4 seems OK, but allows White some opportunities to take control of the center (e.g. 4. b3 cxb3 5. axb3 Nc6 6. d4 ) 3...d4!? is interesting (maybe even a better move), but I favor the idea of a slower build-up of tension over an immediate exchange in the middle; so I say Black moves e6. |

6. Nxd4 6. Qxd4 invites an immediate attack on the queen (6...Nc6) 6. exd4 ends in a poorer pawn structure for White, and worse exposes the white king's file. I considered 6. Qa4+ Bd7 7. Nb5 a6 (and the white knight is lost anyway). |
