f3 ... it's for me!It just doesn't matter. Get the Queen you know you can get and win the game. Will a second Queen be nice ... maybe. But I really think that a second Queen in these positions may actually inadvertently increase the chance of stalemate. Everyone knows how to mate with King and Queen. Get the Queen and do so. Move 71So is everyone happy that they know how to mate with K & Q vs K? If not say so and i will put up a short annotation showing the general ideas. Now there was a suggestion some moves back that we return the game to move 46.Qc5 (which was the losing move for white) and that i play white against the group starting with the correct move of 46.Qc1. If there is general agreement on this then i will set it up. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Now there is nothing to stop the f-pawn Queening and all chances of stalemate are gone so i think this is a good place to stop. When will we start a new one?all participate in the next one. It seemed the last one went somewhat slow due to slow member response. |

or continue...thanks for the offer, Pete. I'll go along with the majority. would be equally happy moving on or going back. ...though perhaps if we move away from that game it will stir up more interest among other club members. |

In agreementI think it may not be of interest to most players. However, if you think that perhaps white may have a lot of new and instructive matter from that point on, and we get at least 3 more members to decide on that option, then by all means, lets go with it. |

Setting up a new game In the meantime I want you all to be sure you are confident in the standard endgame mates. Below I have posted the start positions for them in ascending order of difficulty. If you have any doubts or queries then post them here. Also please post when you have successfully completed them. As usual you can get the analysis board by clicking on each diagram. 1:- R & R & K vs K. 2:- Q & K vs K 3:- R & K vs K 4:- B & B & K vs K |
