Meeting with marathongirl
last week i had the great pleasure to meet joanna and her husband. Jo came to Britain for the London marathon (time 5 hours 58minutes) and then to holiday in Scotland.
Part of that holiday was meeting with me, 1st in my local pub and then back at my cottage.
Before finally settling down to a game Jo had several beers and I had very many drams. So play was not at its best.
I did not record the whole game but to the best of my ancient memory the diagram below is the position in which a draw was agreed.
Now bearing in mind it was OTB with minutes/move rather than online with days/move if you have any comments about the agreed draw they would be most welcome and hopefully instructive.
I expect all club members to join in this fun discussion.

regards pete

Draw
I would say it looks like a draw

Question?
White or Black to move?

Oh ... got it!
'Click to analyze' and it shows Black to move ... sorry.

Rh2
... Rh2 has possibilities. If White starts playing Rb7/8 for checks, then Black might get a passed pawn on the g or h-file if Black can squeeze out a tempo. However, it may well be perpetual check if Black has to protect the f6-pawn.

A great beer and scotch position guys!

after Rh2
if black goes for the h-pawn does this not release the white K into the game?

True ...
... but wouldn't the King still be confined to the first or second rank? It 'feels' like if the King escaped then the pawn situation would have already been clarified in Black's favor.

I haven't played any of this out of course.

K confined
yes the K would still be confined to the back 2 ranks but would be able to use the black squares to move around more.
At the moment it is cobstrained to half the back rank as the B cuts of part of it.
But overall i agree that if this had been playe donline with lots of time then black should be able to make a win.

Agree
As I said ... a great beer and scotch position! Looks like a draw to me!

Black wins!
But without knowing what white would do after much R&B moves, it is almost impossible to formulate a win, without having the opponent in front, and with a lot of time to contemplate each consecutive move

Advance the Pawn?
Could Black play Ra4 leading to Rxb4 and manoevering for advancing the b pawn? I havent played out the entire sequence of moves, but is this a possibility?
