Pretty easy for a two-mover... which is why it only got 5th HM! Still, it's a nice design. BTW, the h6 pawn is to stop 1. Qh6 (in case anybody wonders).

I dislike these puzzles where the game is completely lost anyway for black I much prefer the puzzles where the material is even and are therefore far more practical in an actual game!

Yes, indeed it's a winning position for white, there is forced mate in any amount of moves, but that's not the point of showing this position - can you meet the requirements of the problem? You can scrutinize the position to find the intended mate in two, or you cannot find that mate in two and indeed, in that case, the position becomes pointless. Precise examination/calculation is required and you'll find the "hidden" ideas on the board. That's all that's going on this section and you can either like or dislike it. Or something in between!

Easy but very uninteresting...
I don't think you need to go to the hard puzzles to find one where the king isn't already drowning and has pretty much lost any chance. It's a lot more fun and challenging when the side that seems to have the whole advantage gets nailed.

I agree with you, once when I played a game of chess with my dad, I was in a winning position and found a mate in 2 quite easily. It wasn't until I tried to post it as a puzzle on this site that I found a mate in 1.

Alternate solution
You can also get mate in 2 by using the rook to take the two pawns.

Too many ways to win
You could also have Queen taking e5...really, far too many mates in two!

Nope, not quite. After 1Rxb7 Nf8, the best white can do is mate in 4, I think.

After Qxe5 gxh5, white cannot mate on the second move.

not possible with rook
when rook takes 1st pawn, black knight moves to f8...

Queen Sacrifice
Rook takes pawn, knight takes qheen, rook takes pawn checkmate, works as well.

FA, after Rook takes pawn, black would play Knight to F8 to prolong the match.

Rook takes pawn does not result in a forced two-move mate.

You are correct
Sorry about that

Not bad... The bishop on a3 gives away the first move, or at least what piece needs to be moved.

The only thing I found irritating that there's more than one solution

After 19 comments thus far, and your very clear instructions, people are still claiming alternative 2-move solutions to this puzzle, none of which have passed the "test." Not to offend anyone but some times I wish that alternative solutions were not allowed by players under a certain level, say 1400. Now if someone actually finds a viable 2-mover then I want to hear about it. Otherwise stop wasting my time.

I just clicked "another solution" and tried every move for white other than the key move, and guess what? There's no other solution in 2. But I knew that anyway.

Yes, this puzzle is easy, and yes it's very nice too. Hats off to Barry.
