I am glad this whole construction seems to have survived the stress-test. The shorter sideline after 4. ... Nf8 I already explored a couple of years ago in

Real game ending?

Easy to get to the first two moves, but I completely screwed trying to find 3rd. Three misses in a row there. Then things are made easier. Very interesting. Was it then played in real life like this (ending in mate in 10?)
