Nice. puzzle #4921 certainly makes a deeper puzzle. But, I imagine the value of this puzzle is largely aesthetic. Knowing that a knight is generally insufficient material to mate with; seeing a knight able to deliver mate, and so far away could be quite surprising. Of course, puzzle #4921 has an equally aesthetic value. Knowing that a knight can mate in the corner from so far away, makes it unexpected that mating with a knight up close can be so complicated. They make a nice pair. (Thanks, pixelhermit for drawing attention to that variation.) |
