Nice puzzle for this sectionQd6+ leads to nothing. The king moves to g8 (e8 means Qe7#) and then the queen can only give check on her initial square, after which the king moves back to his initial square ... After Qg7+ the king moves to e8 and can escape to d7 after Qg8+. It is not too difficult to see that we can first block d7 with the c5-pawn. And the rook is no problem, because when he takes the pawn we have Qb8+ Rc8 Qxc8#. Any other move of black can also not prevent the mate in 3, so c6 is our move. |
