What made this puzzle easier today puzzle #31939. I actually varied my method slightly in that I decided not to even think about queen moves unless I eliminated other possibilities, and this left bxa5, which fails to 1. ...Rb4!, and b5.

![]() It's true that there are many lines to consider, but it's also easy to see that almost any move by Black can be answered with 2. b4#. The only exceptions are 1... Nd4 (2. Qe4#) and 1... Re4 (2. Qxd6#), since both moves would give Black an opporunity to block the white bishop's diagonal in the second move, as well as 1... dxc5 (2. Qc6#) which removes White's control of e4. But all of these give the white queen an opportunity to give the finishing blow. Nice one! |
