Rather than Rh7 to u2+, black moves is Qxd7 or Rh7 takes Nd7?

in the given solution, after black takes the knight on d7, white plays Qb6+ followed by Qxa6+ with many threats

Right. If black takes on d7, it’s a simple check mate in 4 moves.
Qb6+ -> Qxa6+ (Black blocks with queen or rook) Qc6+ -> mate at b7.
Or if black would take with the rook on the d-file, it’s mate in 2.

It's not quite a forced mate.

2.Nd7 Qxd7
3.Qb6+ Ka8
4.Qxa6+ Qa7
5.Qc6+ Rb7

prevents mate, but then I think

6. a6 is powerful
