easy?
Well, under lots of pressure in the final Armageddon game, the individual European title being on the line, play actually continued 47. ... Qxd4+ 48. Ka2 Re1 49. Qxe1 Bg6 50. Qa1 1-0

Thanks for that info, Kingdawar...
I agree that 48.Bb1+ had to be worked out, and with only seconds to make the move it would be hard to do. But it *should* be the very first move to consider when solving a position if you have plenty of time. That's the problem tho. How often do we have enough time to solve these in real life?

3.5 Stars Difficulty (Only 38% solved it correctly. I'm guessing the Q maneuver back to d1 is the real sticking point)
2.5 Stars Aesthetics. While this is yet another reminder to analyse the most forcing moves first, the position and the solution aren't terribly memorable.

Kingdawar,
I certainly wasn't intending to disparage the standard of play, or the talent of the players. I was just commenting that compared to the puzzle in the easy section today, this one to me was a lot more straightforward. And of course chess puzzles can't reproduce the pressures of OTB timed games and competitions etc.
