Why not 2. Qc1?
I played 2.Qc1 and this is the continuation vs computer:
1. Qf4 g5
2. Qc1 Qh6+
3. Kg1 Bxe4
4. Kf2 Qh2+
5. Ke3 Nc4+
6. Kxe4 Qg2+
7. Rf3 f5#
So there are 5 moves after the key move.
I think I could have even played better with white.
I don't think white is obliged to take the bishop with the queen...

Re chess tactics # 10987
On ottavofuco comment I submit:
1 Qf4...g5
2 Qc1...Ng4+
if 3 Kg1...Qh6 and then if 4)Rf2 or 4)Ra2 or 4)Qc2 (the only 3 ways to defend mate at h2), then 5)...BxB wins in all cases as mate at h2 or at h1 cannot be avoided. And of course, if after 2)...Ng4+ 3) Kh1, then also 3)...Qh6+ leads to the same position but in a "forced" way.
