Confused!
Got it right up to the last move. Problem is that I think I must be missing a move to matter. So no resolution to the problem. What does this teach?

Resolution is checkmate.

Not in this case. It ends with the Re3 so mate is much further on. Can you do 9 moves out? Good teaching comes from lessons that make sense to the student. So this tactic ends before learning happens. 1845 is a high rating but not impossible.

To prevent early checkmate, you win a rook in move 6. That's what you should have seen.
