So many quicker mates?
As long as black can get his king to a3, it seems that a much quicker mate is assured. The "correct" moves here seem ponderously slow - although I must be missing something, right? If black starts moving thusly - 1. Rc1+ Kb4 - what's to stop him from getting to a3 and forcing an earlier mate? The white rook couldn't alter the tempo with a check against black or even protect against the mate by remaining on the back rank. Can someone explain what I'm missing?

I played this out , ignoring Blacks King to a3 , every time i went there it ended up a draw , or a chase round the board !
eg
.... Kb4
Re4+ Ka3
RA4+ Forcing Black to take the Rook and a draw,

So ignore a3 , it is shown on the continuation button, if you head for a3 white can claim a draw
