Qc2+ does not cover the king's d4 escape square after Kxe3. Compare:

1.... Qb2+
2.Kxe3 Re6#

1... Qc2+
2.Kxe3 Re6+
3.Kd4

Granted, Black snags the bishop but the mate takes longer.
