Better solution

Surely Qg4 is a quicker and better move than what you suggest?

Not sure what you mean. The solution with
1.Qh6 Qxf3+
2.Kg5 Qg4#
is a mate in two.

But if you play 1.Qh6 Qg4+? as you seem to suggest, then white can just take the queen with
2.fxg4 and will go on to win the game...
