Its better but not much anyway... I played with computer and below are the steps
Kg2 Qg5+
2. Kh1 Re2
3. Rg1 Qf4
4. Qd8+ Kh7
5. Qg8+ Kxg8
6. Rg2 Re1+
7. Rg1 Qxf3+
8. Kh2 Re2+
9. Rg2 Qxg2#
