After 5. Ne4, what's wrong with Rxg7? Looks like Black should be fine after that.

Well I agree black is fine but in the solution black is a whole rook up, while in your variation after Rxg7 6 RxR RxR 7 NxB it is just an exchnge with still some drawing chances for white.
