knight not queen

seems a bit silly for black to take with his queen when the knight at d5 would work just as well and then the point count doesn't change at all and the only improvement white has made is to advance a pawn one square.

Well, once that white pawn is on f6 and Black's queen is forced off the diagonal that is attacking it, white's queen can go to h6 and g7 for the mate. Such as

2.Nf6+ Nxf6
3.exf6 Qd8
4.Be4 Qc7
5.Qh6 Qe5
6.Qg7#

But white's net move would be ph5 ....and that will shut down the queen attack.

I don't understand. At what move number would Black (not White) make the h5 move? Even if he did, White's Queen can move to around it, to g5, h6 and g7.

things get a bit complicated...in the end....I think white still prevails....but it'd go something like...

1.Qe7

2.Nf6+ Nxf6

3.exf6 h5

4.Qg5 Qd8

5.Be2 Bd7

6.Bxh5

Well, two things to consider. White mates after 5...Bd7

5.Be2 Bd7
6.Rxd7 Qxd7
7.Qh6

Secondly, Black's queen is hanging after 3. exf6. Playing 3...h5 loses the queen to 4. fxe7
