If I see it correctly, then after 1. . . . Qc5 2. Kg3, then
2. . . . Qg5ch and if

3. Kh2 then

perspective
This exercise is unusual among these tactical exercises in that it neither forces mate nor wins material, and leaves black up the same two pawns that he was up at the beginning of the exercise--albeit with rooks exchanged, white's mate threat ended, and with what should be a won game.

The difficulty with this exercise is not so much with this exercise by itself, but in comparison with the other exercises. Perhaps this exercise is MORE realistic than most of the other exercises, but a chessplayer attempting the exercise is thrown off because the relatively small gains as stated above are generally NOT good enough for these exercises, and therefore it is relatively easy to find the correct line of play, but to keep on looking, and looking, and looking because of the nagging feeling that there must be something better because, after all, this is one of the gameknot tactical exercises!
