Qb6 does not work

2. b4 stops the mate.

If anything, 1. ... Qc5 is better than Qb6 because it traps the King by: 1 ... Qc5 2. b4 Qc2+ 3. Ka5 Qc5

1...Qxb2 is the superior move. Why not take a pawn and guarantee the mate?

Yes, of course!

That's why 1... Qxb2 is the answer!

I was just pointing out Qc5 is certainly better than Qb6, but both are worse than Qxb2!
