If you look at the alt (second best solution), you'll see that Kf7 lets white delay the mate for another 3 moves, making it a mate in 7, instead of mate in 4.

The problem i see with this is it gives white the chance to stop the mate , even tho she loses a Rook!
2.Rb8+ Kf7
3.Rf8+ Kxf8
4.Ne6+
Black must take the Knight or White can take
5.Nxf4 , stopping the quick mate

duotrigesimal is right it takes longer , but i couldn't see Kf7 on the alt solution
