One line results in a "mirror model mate". This type of mate requires that (a) none of the eight squares around the king are occupied; (b) each of the eight squares is attacked by only one White piece or pawn; (c) all of White's pieces (with the possible exception of king and pawns) participate in the mate.

The usual reaction to such a position is, "Wait! Is that really mate?"

Stymied
This was a nice one. I finally found it by looking for ways to throw pieces away.

Very nice!

And a great explanation, PB!
