As it was said in a previous puzzle ...
in a 2 moves mate the first move USUALLY isn't a check.

Of course, usually doesn't mean always

This puzzle's id is 31, it was posted right on the first day the puzzle application became available. Why don't you guys dive in the archives and see what is there?

I don't understand what you mean, I was just joking.

Anyway, sorry if someone thought my comment was inappropriate.

More good things on the site
Kingdawar is right about the archives for the puzzles. Great puzzles for every level!

I want to point out the chess tactics part of the site. I stumbled on to it after I had moved in all my games. It pops up.

Since I have returned to graduate school and am working full time, my time for chess is limited. I stay fresh by doing three of the chess tactic puzzles a day as well as the two checkmate puzzles.

Last to Kingdawar. Thanks for contributing so many puzzles. I love that you attribute them to their original source. YOU have helped make this site great!

jmc5400 thank you, I am in a similar situation with no time to play, but still I invest more of my idle time than most on GK

Thank you, an excellent puzzle and the best I have seen in ages
It's nice and relaxing spending of time away from your games

Back to basics..
I see we're back to the simplistic two-mover with check as the first...ah me, halcyon days of yore...
