I solved the puzzle. I don't know why the first move can't be made with the rook.

Same here, I was going for the rook too. Shouldn't make a difference.

Rd4

If Rd4 we have Nd2. In solution - Qd4, Nd2, Qd2 followed by mate soon.
It's nice puzzle, especially the double check mate.

Yeah rxd4 doesn't wrok because of Nd2, with tQxd4 however if Nd2 the Qxd2 is mate.

hat back, Qxd2 wouldn't be mate, but Rxd4 still doesn't work because of Nd2.
