Other way
The white rook could have just moved to the right one space and then moved to row 8. That's how I normally make checkmate when I play chess against the computer.

Other way...
If you move the rook to G1, black responds with Qxc7+, white: Ka8, then the queen or the rook finishes white off.

Hmmm Lola. As per usual another claim for an alternate solution. Why not try your new checkmate in the solutions bit in options. If you had then you would see that while you are busy moving your rook to g1 black will play QxP+ followed by Q to A7, B7, C8 or D8 C/M. Unless Rook to D8 instead.

Obviously any alternative solution that doesn't put Black in check after the first move has no chance of working.

I am sorry but I have no idea what QxP+ and Qxc7+ and all those codes mean.

It means that the queen takes the pawn and puts the king in check (QxP+) and the other one means that the queen takes the piece at c7 (which is the only white pawn) and puts the king into check. It is standard shorthand for keeping track of chess moves.

Oh, okay, I see that now. Thanks!

And yeah, the black queen would present a problem...
