Well, it should be very much allowed, as long as you give any credit to Viktor Chepizhniy, 1989

How did you do that???
Victor Chepizhniy? Sorry, I didn't know about him. My bad!
But please tell, how does kingdawar sort out sources by position?
Do you have some kind of search software, or ...
just a high-RAM photographic memory?

The Internet offers wonderful search facilities that can be used quite handily for chess purposes, too. Some sources can even be used offline. Here is a pretty solid online reference:

Sorry, I'm not getting it.
bstephen.me.uk is not helpful for me doing this.
Maybe I'm missing something...

I went to the linked site:
http:/ /www.bstephen.me.uk/cgi-bin/meson_display.pl?pid=24975
and I can see the diagram and the stats, etc. But looking around the site, I can see
no way for me to enter a new diagram and find it in their database to inform me
of the composer or the year or the source, etc. That's what I'm trying to do.
E.g., who is the composer of the problem with FEN as follows:
8/4K3/2k5/5Q1B/bp6/8/7B/8 w - - 0 1 ?
8/4K3/2k5/5Q1B/bp6/8/7B/8 w - - 0 1 [correct]

It's W.A. Shinkman. You can just use Google and input that string of information. zebutom posted it here already, as puzzle #3364

It can be found on the Meson site, too, with a list of sources that republished the diagram:

www.bstephen.me.uk

The following link is the Meson search page, it can appear to be a bit complex. Once you have figured out how to use it, it works quite neatly:

www.bstephen.me.uk

The following page is in my opinion the most basic site for performing chess problem searches; it also links to the Meson when possible:

www.yacpdb.org

There are a few more places you can look... like (this doesn't have the easiest search mechanism either)

www.softdecc.com

This specific problem:

www.softdecc.com

But the easiest way is just to use Google and just give any information you have about the position. This is a relatively well-known problem, so a wide range of websites will give information about it. Other problems may be more obscure and quite possibly can't even be found in these large online databanks.

Okay. This is getting better.
It's not so self-explanatory -- that is, you have to do some digging for codes and stuff.
It really helps me to get your input. I found it in Meson:
http:/ /www.bstephen.me.uk/cgi-bin/meson_display.pl?pid=13201

Could you explain, kingdawar, how you located zebutom puzzle #3364 on this site?
Incidentally, when I tried to enter that very puzzle, the GameKnot system said that
the same diagram had already been entered by another member. But IT DID NOT TELL
ME WHAT THE PUZZLE NUMBER WAS! So I could not go to it and try it out. I was
very frustrated. Could I make a suggestion somewhere, that when a member tries
to enter a puzzle and cannot because it's already in the database, that the system
could easily display the number of the existing puzzle, and perhaps provide a link, so
the inquiring member can go see it and use it [b]without a master's degree in IT?[/b]

P.S. Many thanks for all your help!

Isn't it a reassuring thought that what you really really wanted to show here has already been shown, right here?

FYI when I put 8/4K3/2k5/5Q1B/bp6/8/7B/8 w - - 0 1 into Google, I get a pile
of websites with no reference to Shinkman OR the puzzle described by that FEN.
Google is happy to provide unrelated sites with various character <segments> of
the FEN, such as this (5Q1B, 7B, 8 w, 2k5, and so on):

... [FEN "2brk1r1/p3bp1q/2p4p/1p2PP2/2p1N3/5Q1B/PP6/2KR3R w - - 0 1"] * [Event ..... [FEN "Q7/ppp2kpp/8/2b5/4RP1q/7b/PPP3PP/3R2BK b - - 0 1"] * [Event "1001 ...... [FEN "4k3/p1P3p1/2q1np1p/3N4/8/1Q3PP1/6KP/8 w - - 0 1"] * [Event "1001 ...... [FEN "1n5r/R5pp/2rNpp2/2k5/8/4P3/1P2P1KP/3R4 w - - 0 1"] * [Event "1001 ...

Are you putting this in Google or something else?
8/4K3/2k5/5Q1B/bp6/8/7B/8 w - - 0 1

No matter what I try I do not find anders.thulin.name among any of the hits.

E.g., are you entering
fen:8/4K3/2k5/5Q1B/bp6/8/7B/8 w - - 0 1
or
"8/4K3/2k5/5Q1B/bp6/8/7B/8 w - - 0 1" chess problem
or
...what????

Okay. Got it now. I was using TOO MUCH info (... w - - 0 1)

Where can I go on GameKnot to make the suggestion, that
"...when a member tries to enter a puzzle and cannot because it's already
in the database," why not provide a feature whereby "the system could easily
display the number of the existing puzzle, and perhaps provide a link..."?
