This looked like your average easy puzzle, but I quickly saw it is a lot more than this.

what the flip
Why would black make such a move? Why not take the rook that was left open?

A nice puzzle. The move 1. Qe5! puts black in zugzwang.

You're right macheide
It's zugzwang, and it's very nice.

This position made me feel a little strange at first glance, but once you see the solution you start to appreciate it.

The Trick
The trick is realizing that Black has to make one move. What does Black do? All moves lose. Also my challenge is always seeing the mate then finding the way to it. This puzzle's mate isn't so obvious. Good one!

"Easy" Puzzle
How is this the daily easy puzzle?
It's definetely a lot harder than the so-called "hard" puzzle.

Loved this one!
Yes, it's more challenging than the average two-move puzzle, but it's still only a 2-mover.

Very nice!

I looked at this earlier today and couldn't figure it out. I ended up giving up after 5 minutes. I just came back and solved it on my first try. Doh!

Excellent puzzle!

It's not exactly checkmate in 2, because if Black wanted to forestall the game he could do h5 for 1 move to put white in check. Am I correct?

Moving the pawn to h5 is also a losing move for black.

1. Qe5 h5+
2. Qxh5#
