Mirrored variation

Surprisingly it works in an almost identical way if pawns were hading the other way, here's FEN: 6q1/4Pp2/7p/7k/8/7K/8/5Q2 w - -

With this scenario, the King can escape to f6. The pawn at e7 would not be controlling that square.

I said "almost identical", the solution is 1.Qf5+ Qg5 2.Qxf7+ Qg6 3.Qd5+ Qg5 4. e8Q or e8B#
