![]() However, there are puzzles where the player could mate in 1 or 2 moves if only their king wasn't also in trouble. Not just minor trouble of "spite checks", but real trouble because if the king makes the wrong move, the king is dead. In those puzzles, it seems as if the opponent's checks serve only to prolong the game. In reality, those puzzles are more about evading checkmate with the right moves while simultaneously setting up the opponent for checkmate. |
