Puzzles in which the end is prolonged by useless sacrifices are not my favorites. But the game itself was that I'd like to reproduce the entire score. If you can take a few minutes to play it over, I think you'll really enjoy yourself.

Agree with the point about sacrifices, but a nice end, and interesting game, nonetheless. Thanks for posting.

ravel_out: The database at www.chessgames.com. I spend most of my time there, since these days I'm more interested in chess history and research than in playing.

I don't like puzzles that are mostly about useless sacrifices to avoid checkmate. I call those "spite checks" since they serve no other purpose.

However, there are puzzles where the player could mate in 1 or 2 moves if only their king wasn't also in trouble. Not just minor trouble of "spite checks", but real trouble because if the king makes the wrong move, the king is dead. In those puzzles, it seems as if the opponent's checks serve only to prolong the game. In reality, those puzzles are more about evading checkmate with the right moves while simultaneously setting up the opponent for checkmate.

Sometimes spite checks result in neat finishes, but in this case I agree that it isn't the case
