I find it strange that...

The King can't take the Queen, given that the rook is unable to protect her... I know this is the rule, but it'd be handy for the King to be able to make all moves that he couldn't be harmed for!

Think of it like this - If the king takes the queen - then the rook takes the white king before the bishop can take the black king so white loses as they lose their king first.

how can a rocky check mate the white king while the other rocky is protecting it's king?
