I love pawn mates!
... but this one was very simple: half a star

White has to give check on the first move, otherwise black takes the initiative with a queen check.and we have no mate in 2.
So we can choose from Qe8+, Qf7+ and Qxf5+. Qe8+ means giving away our queen: not good. After Qf7+ we get Qg6 or g6. In both cases there is no mate in 1: not good. So we are left with Qxf5+, forcing black to play g5. And now we have a mate in 1

Of course ...
... we also have g4+ as an option for the first check, but that is too bad a move to even consider

I was surprised that after 1234 attempts and a 91% success rate it still had 1.5 stars. Then I browsed through all (well, not quite "all") the past puzzles. It turns out that ones this easy, i.e., 90% usually get somewhere around 1.5 stars. Vox populi. Again thanks.

Interesting observation. Now what is the value of the vox populi? If i look at the chosen government or listen to the hitparades in my country i am not too positive about it

But in my defence (or defense), politicians and hit parades appeal to our baser instincts - irrespective of country; besides, isn't chess all about making the right decisions? Om.

Chess is indeed ...
... partly about making the right decisions, but since our brains are so limited we already know that most decisions we make in it are not right. Unfortunately we cannot look 50 moves ahead in an eye blink ... Some of us are just better than others, but in the end we all have our limitations.

And about politicians and hitparades:my point is that they are very superficial nowadays and have no content. This gives me some doubts about the value of the vox populi
