Process of elimination. All other moves are obviously wrong, it doesn't take long to get to the solution. Nice puzzle though.

I agree. It's fairly apparent what the solution is once you see that immediate promotion either loses a piece (the rook) or is otherwise a stalemate trap. It's also not hard to guess that all the pieces are necessary for mate in 2, so that really does leave only one solution.

But still problems like these are useful because I've seen games drawn by stalemates that need not have happened, and it's always nice to train ourselves to see a drawing resource we might otherwise overlook.

I have to agree. In terms of "difficult" 2-move puzzles, this is one of the easier ones. The process of elimination is much easier to complete with so few pieces and so many possible stalemates. Great puzzle, though.
