Easy but ...

The interesting point here is, I think, that: "Potter announced a nine mate after only six moves!" I believe that every chess player wants to do something like this at least once in his life.

Can anyone find a natural way to get to the starting position in 6 moves? Black must have been playing terribly.

Interesting...

I wonder how long he spent analysing it? Of course the first move is easy, then you have to find the continuation. I spent a bit of time looking at 8.Nd5ch, thinking to trap the King on the Q-side before realising that 8.Bg5ch is the more obvious move (snapping up the Black Queen if nothing better is on offer).

The idea of letting go the e5-Knight is soon embraced when you discover that 4.f4ch pulls the King into White's field on the K-side. After that it's easy, once you realise that 0-0-0 is not part of the plan: the rook is protected by the checking bishop at moves 8 and 9. Having worked all this out I just had to check it was indeed 9 moves.

Did I do this in my head? Nah. Just my board. Took maybe 5 minutes or so.
