I'm learning this opening: 1. c4, and wonder what main lines (or winning combinations) any of you can describe.
I was surprised to learn that (as far as most of my friends are concerned) this is a very "unknown" opening. I doubt that it is *that* unknown, as it seems to be one of the more popular ones that people don't use!
What do you think?

pereicel .. perhaps he/she will answer this question. I had never faced the "English" until my recent League games with pereicel .He/she used it with white AND black against me (check my games for a view) good luck ... victord

Black gets the K and Kb pawns to row 5; both Knights out to C & F and then comes out to attack with Kb. If white comes out with the KKt instead of the Kb dont send your Kb out or it will usually get killed.
My father opened c4 on every bloody game he ever played White, and he very rarely lost if he managed to get to the "Four Knights" position.

look at

then choose "service" and "Eröffnungsschule" and "Englische Partie". It's a simple way for a quick look to the different ways in an opening. I built this opening-school for the homepage of the german chessclub Schachklub Kaltenkirchen.
Also there are many trainingslessons and all in javascriptdiagramms for very userfriendly work so you don't need to understand the german language. All is built for the work with the youth in the club, but I think it make a good job for all player.
