Subject: National trends

Message:
I am new to gameknot, but ive been playing chess in small doses for a while. Most people on
this site declare their nationality and I was wondering if people have noticed that players from
certain countries have trends in regards to their style of play, and if so what do you think could
be the reasons for this? No racism please.

Well...

Message:
most of the top players are Italian, and the top two (cyrano and rodog) are both from the city (I presume it's a city, pardon my ignorance if not) of Parma.

Correction

Message:
cyrano and rodog are the two highest rated players. Whether or not they're the two best is up for debate.

Message:
cyrano and rodog also have the top scores in competition against other top players. The next two aren't far behind, but have zero scores against both of them. (Competition table is at -> gameknot.com So I'd say they're the two best players until someone proves otherwise.

Slightly OT anyway... ELO here is very inflated I find, which makes me think my national counterparts (albeit OTB) are quite good. Either that or its inflated universally. Quite surprising considering there is always a possible element of cheating. I'm from Scotland.
