Subject: It's about creativity!
Message: Hi folks,
people study tactical puzzles and opening lines. But I think, one major point in chess is creativity: to create a plan in a seemingly equal position, to get the idea where to attack in order to create weaknesses that can be exploited, to give problems to the opponent who is in a better position...
How do you train your creativity in chess?

Message: brulla,
I don't find today's chess is going to the direction of creativity any more with all the opening theories and huge databases. There are still some big room for creativity for advanced levels. In my personal experiences, I would suggest you to try Go (Paduk, Wigo). It is a another board game demanding much more creativity for novice and intermediate players. We can say chess is a combat sim, but Go is a war sim.

Message: ... is a word we use to describe the act of extrapolating beyond our knowledge and experience. So the answer is: gain chess experience by exploring as much of the game as you can. The more you know, the more you have already discovered for yourself or what others before you have found, the better placed you are to strike out for the unknown.
Cheers,
Ion

Message: I would suggest studying the games of creative masters. Tal, Shirov, and Chigorin come to mind.
