Is it me, or does practically every game on this site between top-rated players begin with a Sicilian Nadjorf? Would it make it more simple if every game between players with a rating of higher than 2000 just started with 5....a5?

It must be you. While the Najdorf is popular, there are plenty of other openings being played. I like to play English, and not because it remains so. I like how the English can transpose into a huge variety of other openings. I can avoid playing against the Najdorf, if I want. But sometimes I don't mind playing the Najdorf. There is little wrong with it.
Perhaps a large number of people copy some of the Top Players. But I like to create my own path.
